August 11, 2012 Ziplining at Dahilayan Adventure Park
What would you do after attending a convention in another city? Roam around the city. I attended an international convention hosted by PIChE Cagayan de Oro (CDO) last week together with 2 other colleagues, Louie and Joie and before we get back to Surigao we decided to do some sidetrip since it was the weekend. Besides, Louie hails from CDO. After the convention, we booked a zipline + white water rafting package for a group of 6 persons with Louie tagging his girlfriend Irish and his brother Shaw. Though there were five of us only, so we paid the extra slot, costing PhP1999 each.
Wake up time was as early as 530AM since a service van was scheduled to picked us up by 630AM at Marigold Hotel where we were booked. We barely had breakfast that Saturday morning. Irish and Shaw just met us at the hotel grounds prior to our trip. The van came and the adventure begun. We passed the main city streets and exited through the processing plants in CDO. We soon found our way to an uphill road leading to the lush plantations of Del Monte pineapples. It was a 45minute ride and we were already in Bukidnon. CDO, Misamis Oriental is bordered by Bukidnon to the south making it very accessible.
We temporarily stopped at Camp Phillips which reminds of Baguio due to the cool atmosphere and abundance of pine trees. There's a big pineapple that serves as a landmark of the place. After taking some photos, we proceeded further south passing more of the pineapple plantations. I even witnessed a harvesting machine which added to the excitement of the day.

We hit the dusty roads leading to the highland plateau of Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Once there, I really felt more of the Baguio-like atmosphere. I loved the cool breeze and smell of the verdant pine trees. For once, I breathed clean air from a lovely place away from the city. Upon arrival, we went straight to the ticket booth, showed our zip line reservation and secured our day tour passes.
The zipline package that we had consists of 3 zip rides starting from the 150m long zip connecting to the 320m zip line. After gearing up and some safety instructions, we had the first two ziplines.
The first two zips were not much of a challenge. A short zip ride only that lasted a minute perhaps. During the first zip ride, I twisted around letting me face back where I started. After the second zip ride, the attendant had our gears all removed. Zips were checked also on the pass secured on our wrists. There's a one time zip ride only for the different zip lengths. I took some photos at the play grounds before climbing up the hill for our last zip ride.
For the last zip ride, we had to queue and wait for the service that will take
us to what was called zip zone. The zip zone is the launching tower of what was dubbed as Asia's Longest Dual Zip line with the entire length of 840 meters.

Now time to take the challenge. So geared up and waited our turn for this once of a lifetime ride.
Then it's my turn to be prep up and take the ride. Take it from me: Scream like you haven't screamed while traversing the 840m long cable.
I liiiiiiive! Yeah! Hooray for today. I did it with my thoughts of the cable getting snapped during the minute long zip ride.
After all of us had taken our turns, we had a short break and roamed the grounds of the park. We also checked their lodge available for those who want to stay for the night.

We had a half day adventure-filled fun at Manolo Fortich. Time checked was 1030AM. We went back to CDO by that time and had our lunch at Great White Water Rafting place. From there, the next adventure for the day continued. The white water rafting adventure will be posted on a separate blog.
