It took 30 minutes from GenSan to the town of Maasim in Sarangani. We drove passed by the coastal villages and canyons. To our left was the blue Sarangani Bay.

August 11, 2013 Conquering the RapidsAfter we did the zipline courses at Dahilayan Adventure Park in the morning, it's to brave the rapids of Cagayan de Oro. Due to the limited time frame we had, our package inclusion was the beginners course comprising of 14 rapids. We maximized our time given that we had an early connecting flight from CDO to Cebu to Surigao the next day. We rode a jeepney with the raft to be used secured on top. We drove pass along the Lumbia airport, passing through Makahambus Cave and a made our way to a downhill road somewhere towards the starting the point. We left our things secured on a locked big bag at the office of Great White Water Rafting main office (www.riverraftingcdo.com). That's where our service dropped us earlier in the day. Moving on, upon arrival at the starting point, we were each given a life vest, helmet and a paddle. After our guides helped us secure of life vest, the group had a short orientation and prayer for safety. We were given some instruction like paddle forward, back paddle, and the notable high 5. Then it was time to take the 4 hours long adrenaline packed challenge. August 11, 2012 Ziplining at Dahilayan Adventure ParkWhat would you do after attending a convention in another city? Roam around the city. I attended an international convention hosted by PIChE Cagayan de Oro (CDO) last week together with 2 other colleagues, Louie and Joie and before we get back to Surigao we decided to do some sidetrip since it was the weekend. Besides, Louie hails from CDO. After the convention, we booked a zipline + white water rafting package for a group of 6 persons with Louie tagging his girlfriend Irish and his brother Shaw. Though there were five of us only, so we paid the extra slot, costing PhP1999 each.
July 14, 2012 Overnight in Surigao CityPong had just came from re-assignment in Palawan. He missed most of the outing of the group so we decided to have an outing at the city during the weekend. Sir Ian suggested we visit Fiesta Dive Resort and spend the night in the city. The resort is located in Barangay Ipil in Surigao City, just near Mabua pebble beach. Came Saturday, we did not render overtime so as to be able to ride the service bus going to the city. As usual, we from production department (Pong, Kelvin, Dexter, Louie, Sir Ian and I) tagged along Homer from the IT section. Campsite to city is just 1 and a half hours drive so we arrived by 630PM. Arriving at the city, we went to buy some stuffs first then had a quick dinner. By 730PM, we hired a multicab to bring us to the resort. It was already 8PM when we arrived and we checked-in immediately. Sir Ian had a reservation prior to our outing. We had a family room good for 8 persons for PhP3500. It was a huge room that I could do a cartwheel. We had asked for extra beds since there were only two king sized beds at the room. There were seven of us.
May 20, 2012 Exploring Surigao del SurIt was a Sunday, the day of our restday when Bulalo tribe embarked to a journey to Surigao del Sur. Kimoy was our guide since he grew up in Cantilan where his relatives still reside. Wake up time was early and by 630AM we were already at the highway waiting for the Tandag bound bus. And in no time, the bus came and off we go to Adlay.
Adlay is a barangay in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur. There is this eatery with a fish farm that the tribe wanted to check and have breakfast supposedly. It began to drizzle as we approached Adlay. I think we missed the fish farm because we were seated at the back seats of the bus during the travel. Mario made a stop call right after a bridge. May 1, 2012 Island Hopping in Surigao CityIt's labor day and a holiday on a Tuesday! Since there was nothing to do at campsite, my colleagues decided to do some island hopping at Surigao City. We are the Bulalo Tribe, named after a dish frequented previously at an eatery in Surigao city during our first months of exile in Surigao. The tribe was picked up at 7AM at campsite by a Fortuner we requested from the company to bring us to the city. Arriving at the city, we had a quick breakfast at Jollibee then bought food items from the market for lunch.
April 29, 2012 Cool down at Mabua Peeble BeachNursing our hangovers from last night's party at Kody's, we went to Mabua to cool down. Mabua beach is accessible by tricycle of by multicabs from the Surigao City proper. We just want to unwind and relax and heading to the beach was a nice idea.
Mabua is different from your regular sandy beach. Differently sized peebles make up the shores of Mabua. Nipa cottages were also built along the shoreline for public use with a reasonal rental fee. Just a piece of information, the beach is of a steep drop (kantilado). Good thing I was wearing a lifevest considering that I am not a swimmer. April 22, 2012 Sohoton TripIt was a Sunday when our group went to visit Sohoton Cove at Bucas Grande Island. I could say that it was a company outing since we from the Process Engineering group (PEG) was invited by the Admin group (AG) to join in this trip together with our Japanese staffs. We from the PEG was excited for this trip since it was our first trip together considering that we had just relocated in Surigao del Norte for work assignment.
The service came to fetch us around 6AM at the dorm. We waited for the others at the Hayanggabon wharf. Come 730AM we were now on the open sea via a boat with a capacity of 15 people. April 2, 2012 Day Tour in BoholMy sister and my friends were really dead tired the previous day that we arrive at Cebu port by 830AM. They slept and forgot our early sched for the ferry. At the port queue, a guy approached me and asked where we were heading. I told him we were going to Tagbilaran. He asked if we already had an arrangement regarding our day tour in Bohol. I made a deal with my companions approval to a stranger. This guy called someone in Tagbilaran that will picked us up. Call it divine intervention that nothing harm was done to us in Tagbilaran. A few good men are still out there.
April 1, 2012 Stop over in CebuI had a week long forced vacation for reasons that my Japanese superior was out of the country. Reasons that I found illogical and for that I made an immediate travel plan. I booked a flight going to Cebu where I met my sister from Manila. A couple of friends who were having vacation in Puerto Princesa had me booked them an immediate flight to join me in Cebu. So there were four of us exploring Cebu City with the plan to check out Bohol the following day.
My sister's flight arrived first in Cebu then came the flight from Palawan. Unknowingly I even met some ex-colleagues boarded on that flight. We hailed a taxi from the airport and checked in at Verbena Capitol Suites. Right after we got rooms, we went to explore the city center. |
